With no state or local programs in place for community cat management at the time, Jamie approached the Montgomery County Humane Society to sponsor the initiative. On January 4, 2019, Jamie trapped the very first cat as Cats Meow TNR.
Cats Meow TNR sterilized over a hundred cats in its inaugural year. By 2024, that number grew to almost 700 cats, including treatments for injuries and humane care for those animals in need. In 2025, we achieved independence as a 501(c)(3), allowing us to secure additional funding, tap additional veterinary services, and expand our reach. By year’s end, we have trapped, neutered, and treated close to 600 additional cats. Every success is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers and the reputation we’ve built within the community.
We believe every animal deserves to live free from fear, pain, and suffering. By promoting ethical animal welfare, we empower residents to manage community cats responsibly, easing the strain on local shelters and creating healthier environments for both cats and people.
Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNR): Spay/neuter surgeries, core vaccinations, treatment for injuries, infections, and parasites, plus safe transportation and return to managed colonies.
Support for Caregivers: Subsidized services for low-income or elderly residents who feed and monitor outdoor cats, including food distribution and seasonal shelters.
Community Education and Engagement: Workshops, school programs, and social media campaigns to raise awareness about TNR.
Rescue and Rehoming: Collaboration with local rescues to place adoptable cats and kittens in loving homes.
Our efforts address Montgomery County's challenges as more people move to Montgomery County and our community animal shelters are always near, or at, full capacity. We fill a critical gap by mobilizing volunteers, partnering with local vets, and supporting community homeowners and concerned citizens.
Caregiver feedback on colony stabilization after our intervention highlights the positive impact of our programs.
We measure success through the number cats sterilized, workshop participants, outdoor shelter distribution, and caregiver feedback. Our work not only saves and improves lives but also encourages kindness and responsibility in the community.
In the coming years, we aim to expand TNR capacity, grow our volunteer network, establish a central equipment hub, and deepen partnerships for faster surgeries and more adoptions. With community support, we can create sustainable change, that positively impacts the quality of life for both community cats and residents alike.
